World Diabetes Day: Every year, November 14 marks the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting. He was the one who discovered the insulin hormone along with Charles Herbert Best in 1922.
As per the experts, an estimated 463 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes. Besides, it is Type-2 diabetes that makes up about 90 per cent of such cases.
According to the health experts, these figures will only continue to rise in future. It is worth mentioning here that diabetes doubles a person’s risk of early death.

This year, the theme for World Diabetes Day 2021-23 is “Access to Diabetes Care – If Not Now, When?”

The theme focuses on the disease and its treatment, dietary changes, and exercise.

This symbol signifies the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes epidemic.
World Diabetes Day was established by the International Diabetes Foundation (IDF) and the WHO in 1991.
However, World Diabetes Day was officially recognised by the UN in 2006 with the passage of a resolution to this effect.
