Gaur City’s Security Blunder: Child Endangers Life Amid Guard Negligence, CCTV Footage Exposes Failures

Gaur City’s Security Blunder: Gaur City, a premium residential complex located in Greater Noida, is not so long ago famous only for its skyscrapers and penthouses, but the recent incident has cast serious doubts over the security measures adopted in the society. Their apartments are valued between ₹75-80 lakhs, and monthly rents are more than ₹20,000; the whole security and maintenance system, so costly a price seems to ensure the safety of the residents very little.

It was the latest incident wherein, on November 25th in the GC-5 sector, the negligence of security personnel nearly claimed the life of a 5-year-old child. The child is the son of Times of India journalist Suneet Singh, who was riding his bicycle when he got wrongly diverted outside the main gate of the society. The security guards who were on duty at the gate did not see the boy leave, and the young boy is left wandering on the street, unattended.

The full extent of the laxity of the security is revealed when CCTV footage of a neighboring market is viewed. It shows the child narrowly avoid being hit by highspeed vehicles multiple times. Despite this, the guards remained ignorant to the disappearance of the child and did not attempt to try and stop him. The child continued wandering into another part of Gaur City, which resembled the appearance of his own society, where again, no one questioned his presence. After aimlessly wandering the complex, he ultimately sat on a garbage truck in the basement area.

It was only after two long hours that the child was found, shaken but unhurt. His frantic parents had been searching the entire society, unaware of where he had gone. At that time, the security guards made it a point that no child had left the premises; however, the CCTV footage directly contradicted what the security guards said.

It is not the first time that Gaur City's security arrangements are proven to be not so impressive. Thousands of residents have been constantly faced with lowly spirited security staff who have been times and again accused of negligence in performance. There has also been cases of complaints of insensitive guards distracted by mobile phone use. Such an incident certainly exposes the breach of basic safety protocols but at the same time, it reflects some systemic failure to learn from past mistakes.

More stringent measures and accountability will have to be brought in now that concerns by residents are loud and clear, so that a lapse of such dangerous consequences would never again occur in the future. The incident had raised rather serious questions about the level of care and attention paid to the safety of children and residents in the society, as if they were paying substantial sums for their security.
