Greater Noida: Elderly Couple From Assam Dies in Wall Collapse Due to Heavy Rain In Dadri
Greater Noida: A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday night in the Ambedkar Nagar area of Dadri, Greater Noida, where a 62-year-old man and his 50-year-old wife lost their lives after a wall collapsed due to heavy rainfall.
The victims, identified as Saboor Ali and his wife Amina, originally from Assam, were residing in a rented house in Dadri. According to the police, the wall collapsed in the slum area of Ambedkar Nagar where the couple had built their dwelling adjacent to the colony wall. They made a living by collecting junk and working as laborers.
Police Statement
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Ashok Kumar Sharma, Sharma told the Millenniumpost, "The incident happened while the couple was asleep. The heavy rain and strong winds caused the wall to collapse, burying them under the debris. Neighbors heard the crash and immediately raised an alarm, alerting the police and rushing to help."
Sharma further explained, "Rescue efforts were particularly challenging due to the continuous rain. Rescuers worked tirelessly to remove the debris and reach the trapped couple. They were pulled out and taken to the hospital, where they unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem."
Investigation
The police have gathered detailed information about the accident from Mohammad Mofidul Islam, the slum contractor, and have launched an investigation into the case. "The family members of the deceased have been informed. Further investigation is underway," said the police.
This tragic event highlights the vulnerabilities faced by those living in precarious conditions and the need for improved infrastructure and safety measures in such areas.
