Security Scare at Greater Noida Polytechnic: 172 Girls Flee Hostel Amid Nighttime Intrusions and Fear!

Students at Maya Devi Polytechnic College in Badalpur, Greater Noida, are fleeing their hostel in fear of criminal activity. A total of 172 girls have left the facility due to the reported presence of intruders at night, leaving many feeling unsafe in what should be a secure environment for their studies.

The girls have expressed their concerns over the lack of security, as there are neither guards nor wardens present in the hostel. Some students, who remain, have opted to share rooms and take turns keeping watch during the night.

Disturbing Incidents Prompt Outcry

According to reports, intruders have knocked on doors and peered through windows late at night. One student recounted an incident where she and her roommates were terrified after several men, believed to be aged between 25 and 40, attempted to enter their rooms. “We screamed for help, but no one came,” she said. Following this incident, many students protested in the hostel premises on Monday.

Another student, who returned to her home in Gorakhpur after the distressing incidents, revealed that even simple tasks like going to the bathroom at night have become frightening. “After the incident on Sunday, I decided to go back home to Aligarh,” she said.

Lack of Security Personnel

The situation has raised alarms not just among students but also within the college administration. Officials admitted that, out of the four hostels on campus, none have designated wardens. Shyam Narayan Singh, the principal of the college, stated that since the institution opened in 2002, only four security guard positions have been filled, with two guards assigned during the day and two at night. He acknowledged the need for at least 12 security personnel and wardens to ensure the safety of the students.

Inadequate Surveillance

While the college had plans to install 16 CCTV cameras, only 10 have been set up, and just six are operational. Students reported having seen drones flying over the hostel area, further escalating their anxiety about safety.

In response to the growing concerns, local police have increased patrols around the college and have engaged with the protesting students. One officer indicated that they are actively inspecting the area to ensure the girls' safety.

As this situation unfolds, the safety and security of students at the college remain a pressing concern, highlighting the need for improved measures to protect those pursuing their education in the region.
