Petrol and diesel rates today were hiked again by up to 29 to 31 paise. This comes as per the price notification by the oil retailers on Monday.

The latest hike makes a litre of petrol in Delhi for Rs 96.4. Whereas diesel costs Rs 87.28. In Mumbai, petrol costs for Rs 102.58 per litre, while diesel has reached Rs 94.70 per litre.

Petrol today touched Rs 96.34 per litre in Kolkata and diesel reached Rs 90.12 per litre. The fuel prices revised to Rs 97.69 per litre for petrol and Rs 91.92 per litre for diesel in Chennai.

Also, for the first time, diesel prices breached Rs 100 mark on Saturday. Moreover, Sri Ganganagar was the first in India to see petrol price hit Rs 100 a litre mark in mid-February.

Mumbai in May became the first metro in India where petrol was being sold at over Rs 100 a litre. Difference in petrol prices today in states occurs on account of local taxes like VAT or freight charges.

Rajasthan in India levies the highest VAT on petrol and diesel, followed by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
