Crocodiles remain unchanged for 200 million years, claim researchers

Scientists discover 150-million-year-old ancestor of crocodiles

No change has been witnessed in Crocodiles for 200 million years.

They endured an asteroid that wiped out every flora and fauna in Yucatan Peninsula about 66 million years ago, according to the new research conducted by the scientists at the University of Bristol, UK.

The crocodiles, according to the scientists, follow ‘punctuated equilibrium’ for their evolution. The evolution pattern has been explained by scientists.

Dr. Max Stockdale, the lead author of the study, shows machine learning algorithm has figured out an estimate to rates of evolution.

According to him, the evolution rate is the number of changes that take place within a certain period of time.

According to the study authors, the crocodiles remained unchanged due to their slow evolutionary rate.
