The 5-year old slim-built white Rhino, Emma, has finally reached Japan. The objective behind her arrival at Saitama Tobu zoo, Tokyo is to find a companion for breeding.

Her journey from Taiwan’s Leofoo Safari Park to Tobu Zoo was delayed following the worsening COVID-19 situation across the world.

“After some delays due to the coronavirus, Emma, a southern white rhino, arrived at our zoo on the evening of 8th June,” the Saitama Tobu zoo said in a statement

“We slowly opened the shipping container which was placed in front of her sleeping room. Emma, without showing any signs of shyness, went straight into the sleeping room,” it added.

To prepare Emma for her new home, the Taiwanese keepers used Japanese words to give her routine instructions.

“Emma was chosen because of her mild personality… and her smaller size also makes it easier to ship overseas,” Sean Wu, the park’s chief veterinarian and the animal manager was quoted as telling AFP earlier this year.
