NASA: Juno spacecraft shares new pics of Jupiter’s atmosphere, intricate colors, chemical compositions – nature’s marvel

Published Date:

NASA’s Juno spacecraft zooming past the largest planet Jupiter fetches interesting details and snippets from far corners of space.

It recently captured the intricate colors and structure of Jupiter’s surface. The striking visuals show swirls of turquoise, milky white, deep ochre and dark blue hues covering Jupiter’s surface. The pictures look too dreamy, all thanks to mother nature!

Furthermore, the space agency has shared some of the pictures taken by the Juno probe on July 5. It was during its 43rd close flyby of Jupiter.

At the time of clicking these pictures, the Juno spacecraft was at a distance of 5,300 kilometres from Jupiter’s clouds.

Interestingly, these two images were drawn by citizen scientist Bjorn Jonsson using raw data from the JunoCam instrument aboard the spacecraft.

Users will see the left-hand side image showing the view as it would appear to a human observer in Juno’s position.

While the image on the right side shows its enhanced colour saturation done by Mr Jonsson.

This digital colourization also brings out the intricate structure of Jupiter’s atmosphere beautifully to the fore.

Moreover, there are some of the most intriguing aspects of the gas giant’s atmosphere like colour variation, different chemical composition, and the three-dimensional nature of Jupiter’s swirling vortices but the brightest part would certainly be its pop-up clouds that form in the higher parts of the atmosphere.

Here are some Interesting facts about NASA’s Juno mission

-The Juno mission was launched in 2011

-It has been exploring Jupiter since 2016.

-The spacecraft circles Jupiter in a highly elliptical orbit.

-Did you know that the Juno probe completes one lap every 43 days?

-In 2022, the Juno mission reached its point of closest approach to Jupiter (over 3,300 kilometres above its cloud tops).
