The detection of organic salts may provide evidence of life on Mars, a team of American space agency NASA said after it found the high possibility of the presence of Organic Salts on the Red Planet.

According to a study that has been published in the ‘Journal of Geophysical Research: Planet,’ Organic salts including iron, calcium, and magnesium oxalates and acetates are likely to be present widely in Martian surface sediments.

Geological processes may have formed organic compounds and salts on Mars, NASA said in a statement.

“If we determine that there are organic salts concentrated anywhere on Mars, we’ll want to investigate those regions further, and ideally drill deeper below the surface where organic matter could be better preserved,” James MT Lewis, an organic geochemist based at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, said.
