Indian-American scientist Swati Mohan led the guidance, navigation, and control operations of the 2020 Mars mission. As a result, NASA’s Perseverance rover made a successful landing on Mars.
“Touchdown confirmed,” said Dr Swati Mohan at around 3:55 PM Eastern Time (2055 GMT) at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, where the mission control erupted in joy following the news.
NASA released a video of the very moment and Dr Swati Mohan is seen wearing a small bindi on her forehead.
The little bindi created a big buzz among desi Twitterati who showed their support and pride for the Indian culture.
While some people said they were bullied previously for wearing a bindi, they thanked her for embracing her culture as she succeeded in her work. The scientist’s desi bindi is drawing a lot of attention on social media as her picture and video in the control room has gone viral.
