Planet discovered in distant universe orbits three suns

Published Date:

We all know about the sun-driven solar system. It is the sun that fuels us all. This is the reason why life on earth can sustain.

But there exists a planet in the distant universe that has not one but three suns.

Yes, It is true! As per the latest discovery, astronomers have discovered a planet that is orbiting three stars in its system.

It is located at a distance of 1300 light-years from planet earth.

This is the planet that has been identified by astronomers from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in the system GW Ori.

So far, astronomers had observed planets with unitary star systems and dual star systems. But this is the first such discovery of a novel phenomenon.

This research was published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. It further speculates the presence of even more such planets in the system.

However, the planet itself cannot be seen, the findings suggest that this is the first circumtriple planet ever discovered.

Using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) telescope, scientists analysed the three observed dust rings around the three stars.

So far only speculations could be made with the limited knowledge that the scientists have.

Apparently, the gap was created by gravitational torque from the three stars. They studied the different origins of the system.

As these are critical to forming planets. And while studying the data they found a substantial gap in the circum-triple disc.

Furthermore, one of the biggest driving forces behind astronomy is the continuous search for the possibility of life. And this goes beyond just the solar system.

Recently, the researchers had suggested that Hycean worlds, beyond our solar system, could have signs of life.
