Black holes by the dint of their appearance always amaze us. In space, black holes are the place where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out.
Gravity is strong there owing to the matter, that has been squeezed into a tiny space. Just because no light can get out, this is the reason why we, humans, are not able to see black holes.
These are invisible in space. Only telescopes with special tools can help find black holes.
Recently, NASA shared a picture of a spectacular set of rings around a black hole. These rings’ pic was captured using NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory.
The X-ray images of the big rings around a black hole reveal fresh insights.
The black hole is part of a binary system called V404 Cygni which is located about 7,800 light-years away from Earth.
The black hole is actively pulling material away from a companion star–into a disk around the invisible object. This material glows in X-rays, so astronomers refer to these systems as ‘X-ray binaries.’
These rings tell the astronomers about the landscape between V404 Cygni and Earth. Black holes can either be big or small ones. Scientists believe that the smallest black holes are as small as just one atom. These black holes are very tiny but have the mass of a large mountain. Mass is the amount of matter.
Another kind of black hole is called ‘stellar.’ Its mass can be up to 20 times more than the mass of the sun. Also, there may be several stellar-mass black holes in the earth’s galaxy.
