Scientists have discovered a new type of ancient crater lake on Mars. It was previously unknown to humans. This new crater lake could reveal fresh clues about Mars’ early climate.
The team led by researchers of Brown University in US describe it as an unnamed crater. And it has some puzzling characteristics.
This crater’s floor also has evidence of ancient stream beds and ponds. There is no evidence of inlet channels though.
Researchers believe that the system was likely fed by runoff from a long-lost glacier on Mars.
So far simulations of Mars climate suggest temperatures rarely peaking above freezing points. But this new evidence of ancient glaciation could change that.

Scientists are also searching for signs of ancient life on Mars. They are using data gathered from Salda lake in Turkey to trace signs of life on Mars.
Salda lake’s minerals and rock deposits match with those around the Jezero Crater. It is the same place where Perseverance landed.
Scientists believe that the Jezero crater was once flooded with water. Lake Salda may help scientists in their search for fossilised traces of microbial life on Mars.
In the light of these findings, Mars has become even dearer to researchers. The red planet remains one of those planets that never any chance misses to amaze us all.
