We all are familiar with and fascinated by SpaceX. This name is almost everywhere, in every field or discussion board. For space is no longer a distant world for earthlings.

Elon Musk is another name that we all like to read about. Since he is the one who has been putting wins on the board ever since he began sending rockets to space.

Here we at The Vocal News, bring you 5 amazing facts about SpaceX.

It became the first privately funded group that put a payload in earth orbit, in 2008. Since then, SpaceX has been launching unmanned cargo vehicles to the International Space Station (ISS).

Not only this but the company also won a contract with NASA recently.

-Elon Musk named his spacecraft ‘Dragon’ after the fictional “Puff the Magic Dragon,” from the music group Peter, Paul and Mary. He took this name because many critics considered his goals impossible when he founded SpaceX in 2002.

-Did you know that on its Dragon capsule’s first test flight in 2010, it carried a wheel of cheese into orbit?

Also, SpaceX’s fleet of Falcon rockets is named after the fictional Millenium Falcon spaceship from “Star Wars” movies.

The company also plans to use a version of the robotic Dragon capsule to carry astronauts to the orbiting outpost and other destinations in low-Earth orbit one day.

-SpaceX’s partnership with NASA falls under the agency’s Commercial Orbital Transportation Systems program. It is now helping NASA also to reinvigorate itself.
