Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2020: All you need to know

The Airtel Delhi Half Marathon (ADHM) 2020 is all geared up for its 16th edition in the capital city of India. ADHM 2020 will kick off on November 25 and conclude on November 29 and boy it has some heavyweights headlining the race. Ahead of the race, the event organisers named India’s only individual Olympic gold-medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra as the event ambassador.

Who will be in the fray?

The first international sporting event in New Delhi after the lockdown in March to combat Covid-19, the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon is going to feature some of the best in the business. World record-holders Brigid Kosgei and Ababel Yeshaneh and defending champions Tsehay Gemechu and Andamlak Belihu will be participating in the ADHM women’s field, making the 16th edition of this World Athletics Gold Label race the strongest in the history of the event – and one of the toughest half marathon contests in the world in 2020.

Among Indians, Srinu Bugatha will be back to defend his title as the Indian winner in the Elite men’s category at the 16th Airtel Delhi Half Marathon. Avinash Sable, Srinu Bugatha, and Abhishek Pal will also be in focus among the men while Parul Chaudhary, will lead the Indian women’s category besides Sanjivani Jadhav, Monika Athare, and Chinta Yadav.

The amateur runners across the world can join the ADHM via the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon Mobile App. The participants can run from the convenience of their own location, anytime between November 25 and November 29.

Safety and precautions 

Following the global pandemic’s aftermath, the safety and restrictions will be of prime importance this year. The elite athletes will be will remain in a biosecure zone. A medical camp with a two-bed ICU set up will be deployed. The route will be a 21Km loop through the city. While elite men race kicks off at 07:10 am and the elite women’s race will start at 08:40 am.

Also, the international athletes will have to take an RT-PCR test within 72 hours of their departure and will be tested again on arrival. There will be another test on Friday, Nov. 27 ahead of the marathon.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju elaborated, “Sport has always been a symbol of optimism, and we look forward to the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon. We extend our full support to this event that is India’s pride and welcome the world’s best athletes to our capital city.”

Prize money

The ADHM 2020 prize money for both the men’s and women’s races have first prize cheques of US$27,000, part of a total prize money purse (combined men and women) of US$233,270.
