In a surprising twist worthy of a Bollywood script, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been named the Deputy of the Jamnagar throne! The announcement came from the current ruler, Shatrusalyasinghji, on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, marking a significant moment in the history of Jamnagar (Navnagar).

Ajay Jadeja, who graced the cricket field from 1992 to 2000, has played 15 Test matches and 196 One Day Internationals, scoring a whopping 5,935 runs. Not only is he known for his cricketing prowess, but he also served as a mentor for the Afghanistan team during the 2023 One Day World Cup, adding another feather to his cap!

In a heartfelt letter, Jam Saheb revealed his decision, stating, “On this blessed occasion, I am ending my doubts and have decided to appoint Ajay Jadeja as my successor. He will have the blessings of the people of Jamnagar, and I have faith he will serve them with complete devotion.”

Why Jadeja? A Legacy of Royal Cricket!

The choice of Ajay Jadeja is no mere coincidence. He hails from the illustrious Jadeja clan, with roots in both the Ranji and Duleep Trophy tournaments, named after his ancestors, Ranji and Duleep. His family legacy is steeped in cricketing history, with his relatives having made significant contributions to Indian cricket.

Shatrusalyasinghji, who is now 85 and without children, felt the urgency to name a successor, leading to the appointment of the well-known cricketer. Their close relationship, forged over years of mutual respect, made Jadeja the perfect choice to carry forward the royal legacy.

A Special Bond Between Jadeja and Shatrusalyasinghji

The bond between Ajay Jadeja and Jam Saheb is particularly special, given their shared passion for cricket. Shatrusalyasinghji made his first-class cricket debut for Saurashtra against Bombay in 1958-59 and played several matches throughout the 60s. His cricketing career, which saw him score 1,061 runs and take 36 wickets, lays the foundation for the mutual admiration that led to Jadeja's selection.

Ajay Jadeja’s remarkable cricketing career has not only made him a household name but has also endeared him to the Jamnagar royalty. His dynamic presence on the cricket field resonates with the values of service and leadership the royal family holds dear.
