Rain marred fun at the Gabba on Day 2 of the fourth Test as India finished their day on 62/2 at stumps. Losing both the openers, play was halted as no deliveries were bowled in the final session on Saturday in Brisbane.
India now trail by 307 runs. As for the hosts, they will be disappointed for not getting 400 runs on board as they lost all their five wickets in the morning session.
Opening the day with Tim Paine and Cameron Green, Australia were poised to get going and put runs on board.
Indian pacers bowled really well in the first session but there were too many errors for the Aussies to capitalize on. Paine and Green looked at ease as they kept the run rate ticking.
Paine went on to bring up his 4th Test fifty against India before nicking one to second slip off Shardul Thakur.
Not long after, Green (47) feel prey to Sundar’s peach of a ball which castled his stumps. Australia lost three wickets for 4 runs, but Starc and Lyon pulled things together with 39-run stand for the ninth wicket.
Natarajan and Sundar finally hit back to wrap up the hosts for 369. India’s inexperienced bowling side did exceptionally well to keep the hosts under 400. Natarajan, Sundar and Thakur picked up 3 apiece and Siraj returned with 1 wicket.
Batting on a pitch suited for batters, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma looked confident striking the ball. It was Gill’s fault as he swabbed a ball way out of the off stump which took a nick to second slip. Rohit looked much more comfortable as he kept rotating the strike and picked up boundaries.
Paine brought Lyon into the attack who struck to hurt the visitors. Well settled Rohit tried to lob one into the crowd which didn’t turn out so. The ball took a false edge which was pouched comfortably by Starc.
Rain didn’t allow the third session to eventualise as India ended the Day on 62/2 with Rahane and Pujara holding fort.
