After pulling off a heroic feat to save India in the third Test of the ongoing series down under, Hanuma Vihari has now gone viral, once again. In the wake of India’s draw against hosts Australia in Sydney Test, social media flooded with congratulatory messages and applause. But, Indian minister Babul Supriyo reflected his distasteful temperament via his Tweet, which not only drew flak but also Vihari’s apt retort.
Post Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin’s historic stand to shut out Australia’s hope of victory, and keep India alive in the series, Supriyo tweeted, “Playing 109 balls to score 7 !That is atrocious to say the least Hanuma Bihari has not only killed any Chance for India to achieve a historic win but has also murdered Cricket.. not keeping win an option, even if remotely, is criminal. PS: I know that I know nothing abt cricket.”
On Monday, India came out to bat chasing a target of 407 to win the game. The pivotal partnership between Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara almost made it look like India was going for the win. But both the batsman’s departure meant India had to save the match, which is to eke out a draw.
A barrage of ferocious bowling made it tough for the new batters Ashwin and Vihari. But the duo weathered the storm to stay put in the crease as their 62* runs stand from 259 deliveries pushed the match to a draw.
Post-match, the stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane tweeted, “Bruised. Broken. But never short of character. Really happy with how the boys fought till the end. Lots to learn and improve as we look forward to Brisbane now.”
