BCCI AGM: T20 World Cup 2021, new IPL plans on agenda

The 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be conducted in Ahmedabad today, December 24. Besides ratification of Indian Premier League (IPL) teams, and the T20 World Cup next year, the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) tax exemption and formation of various cricket committees will be on the agenda of the meeting.

New IPL teams

There will be a discussion on the addition of two new teams in the cash-rich league. A senior BCCI official told PTI, “At this point, the 10-team IPL if BCCI intends to conduct it in 2021, will be a hurried one given that the tendering process and a mega auction will be difficult to organise in such a short span of time. It is only fair that the approval is taken and the big 94 match tournament is held in 2022.”

2021 T20 World Cup venues

While the BCCI has informed its members regarding the venues which are: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai Delhi, Mohali, Dharamsala, Kolkata, and Mumbai, there are state bodies who have objected the plan and have urged to allocate the T20 WC in more centres.

Tax exemption to ICC

BCCI will take a decision on Tax exemption to ICC for holding the World T20 in October-November. The last date to confirm the decision is on December 31. If BCCI fails to secure a tax exemption for the ICC by the mentioned date, the ICC will move the 2021 event from India to UAE.

Cricket’s possible inclusion in Olympics

The BCCI AGM will also discuss on the possible inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, which is backed by the ICC.
