COVID-19: Sports stars who recovered from Coronavirus

Published Date:

Coronavirus – The global pandemic that took the world by storm at the start of 2020, is still at large, proving to be a menace as it continues to claim the lives of thousands across the globe. Sports, among many other industries, have been affected due to the spread of this disease. However, with extreme precautions as soccer, cricket, tennis, and other sports returned slowly, many prominent sports stars have tested positive for COVID-19.

Resumption of many sports competitions in recent weeks despite being played in bio-secure bubbles failed to prevent sports persons from being infected by the coronavirus. But, with growing research in the field players and other victims are recovering more and more.

Here is a list of sports stars who tested positive and recovered:

Cristiano Ronaldo: One of the most famous sports personalities on the planet, Ronaldo contracted the virus during Portugal’s Nations League outing. The 35-year-old was immediately dropped from the side but has hence been found asymptomatic. Ronaldo marked his return with two emphatic goals for Juventus in Serie A.

Zlatan Ibrahimović: The Swedish superstar is another name in the long list of victims of COVID-19. The 39-year-old who plays for AC Milan contracted the virus on September 24 but has completely recovered.

Neymar: Brazilian soccer star who plays for French Ligue team Paris Saint Germain (PSG) contracted the virus while on holiday in Ibiza. Post his 10 days quarantine, his test results returned negative.

Novak Djokovic: Currently the world’s number one tennis star, contracted COVID-19 while organising Adria tour, along with his wife. The Serbian found himself in a mess following the tour arrangement which ignored social distancing rules. But the 33-year-old recovered post quarantining and returned for the French Open where he lost in the final against Nadal.

Shahid Afridi: One of the most popular cricketers in the world, Afridi became the first high-profile cricketer to contract the virus. Due to his active involvement in social works, he tested positive besides his wife and daughter. However, he too has recovered since.
