Eibar vs Real Madrid: 1-3 victory lifts RM to 2nd in La Liga

Goals from Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, and Lucas Vasquez helped Real Madrid grab all 3 points away from home against Eibar on Sunday. The three points lifted Zinedine Zidane’s boys to the second spot in the La Liga table behind Atletico Madrid. They share the same points with ATM ahead by goal difference.

The French international, Benzema drew first blood when he opened the scoring in the sixth minute. He controlled an expert pass from Rodrygo before knocking the ball past goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic. The French striker then assisted Luka Modric in the 12th minute and found the Croatian midfielder arriving unmarked at the edge of the area. Modric fired a right-footed strike into the upper part of the net.

Kike García’s strike in the 28th minute got Eibar back in the game. The Spaniard scored a brilliant strike from outside the area, curling a long shot beyond the reach of Thibaut Courtois and inside the far post.

It was an end-to-end game as both attacks continued to create scoring chances but the defenses kept the score from moving until stoppage time. Lucas Vázquez beat Dmitrovic in the 90+2 minutes to seal Madrid’s fourth win in a row. The goal came moments after Sergio Ramos blocked a chance by Eibar’s Pedro Vigas at the opposite end.

Zidane quipped post-match, “Our first 20 minutes were spectacular, we got the ball out well from the back, we moved well, and when these players are playing like this, it looks easy. But it is normal that we had our difficulties. This is a tough place to play and against a rival that never lets up in its pressure.”
