Brazilian football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, famously known as Pelé, has passed away at the age of 82. The daughter of the three-time World Cup winner confirmed the news on Instagram on Thursday night.
In September, a tumor was detected on his colon due to which he had to frequently visit the hospital. He was also diagnosed with a respiratory infection during his last hospital visit.
As soon as the news broke, the entire football fraternity, including Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar, condoled the icon’s demise and tributes started pouring in on social media.
Messi took to his official Instagram account to pay his respect to Pele.
Shared a photo of him with the Brazilian legend, Mbappe wrote: “The king of football has left us but his legacy will never be forgotten.”
Ronaldo condoled his demise and shared a lengthy post about the legend on Instagram.
Neymar too shared a post on Instagram and paid tribute to his country’s hero.
Throughout his career, the football icon scored a record 1,281 and gained immense name and fame. He joined Santos during his teen age and brought fame to the club and was a part of it for 18 glorious years.
