Joe Root, England’s Test captain, and Eimear Richardson, of Ireland, have been named the ICC Players of the Month for August 2021.

He won against Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Pakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi to earn the honour.

For his consistent efforts in the first three Tests against India as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series, Root was named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August.

In the first three Tests, Root had scored more runs (507) than England’s next three greatest run scorers combined; and he had also been their leading individual scorer in each of their five innings.

He hit three century, including 109 at Trent Bridge, an unbeaten 180 at Lord’s, and 121 at Headingley; all of which helped England win.

Eimear Richardson of Ireland had a fantastic August in women’s cricket, and was named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August 2021.

Richardson won the Player of the Tournament award for her outstanding performance with the bat and the ball during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe qualifier.

Starting off against Germany, she returned figures of 2/6 as the Irish cruised to a comfortable 164-run victory.

Richardson followed up with a 2/24 record against Scotland.

In the following two matches against France and the Netherlands, she continued her scorching form with the ball; returning with numbers of 2/0 and 1/22, respectively, to propel her team to back-to-back triumphs.

Her most memorable innings with the bat came against the Netherlands in their final match; when she hit a 49-ball 53 to assist her team to a total of 111/9.
