IND vs AUS: Bumrah Shines

The opening day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1st Test in Perth was nothing short of dramatic, with fast bowlers dominating the proceedings. On a pitch that offered plenty of assistance, both teams struggled to maintain control, resulting in 17 wickets falling—a rare feat in Test cricket on Australian soil.

India Bowled Out for 150

Australia's pace attack, there unleashed havoc in the first innings as it bowled India out for a mere 150 runs. Josh Hazlewood was the best among the bowlers with 4 wickets, and Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, and Pat Cummins chipped in with 2 apiece. Indian batsmen were never allowed to find any rhythm as the Indian batting lineup folded up under relentless pace and swing.

India Bounces Back with the Ball Skipperled by Jasprit Bumrah was fabulous as his bowlers came roaring back. Bumrah took 4 key wickets, and the golden duck of Steve Smith as well. That's only the second time in the career of Steve Smith, he has been dismissed for a duck on the very first ball. Bumrah's historic wicket of Smith inspired comparisons with Dale Steyn, who did the same in 2014. Mohammed Siraj took 2 wickets, while debutant Harshit Rana took his first Test wicket. Australia suffered a batting collapse on pressure, as they lost their top five batsmen for as low as 38 runs, which was last seen in the year 2016 against South Africa. By the end of the day, Australia had lost all hopes of building a strong lead.

Perth Yesterday Records Broken

It was the first time in 72 years that 17 wickets tumbled on the first day of a Test in Australia. The last occurrence was in 1952.  A record 31,302 spectators occupied the Optus Stadium, highest attendance on a Day 1 to witness a Test match ever.  The first day of this Perth Test will stand for its pulsating pace, record-breaking history, and brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah's performance, further consolidating his status as the best pacers in the world.
