Team India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the first test match of the two test match series.
Team India won the toss and elected to bat first and declared themselves on 574 runs and then bowled out Sri Lanka on 174 and 178 in their both their innings respectively
Ravindra Jadeja was awarded with the player of the match award for his spectacular all-round performance in the match.
Jadeja was the leading run scorer and also the leading Wicket taker in the match and playing the role of match winner.

R Ashwin grabbed 2 wickets in the first innings and than four wickets in the second innings and achieved a new milestone.
Ashwin surpassed the Indian legend Kapil Dev and became the second leading test wicket taker for India.
He is now also the 9th highest wicket taker in the world with 435 Wickets. He has now surpassed legends like Hadlee, Kapil Dev, Harbhajan Singh and many more.

Ravi Ashwin used his words to pay tribute to Kapil Dev and how blessed he feel to stand in the current position he is in.
Things were just getting better for Ravi Ashwin as among all the wishes he was recieving, there was one wish that probably made him the happiest.
The God of Cricket himself tweeted and congratulated about the great achievement from the Veteran spinner.
