India Vs Australia 2nd Test Day 3 Highlights Pat Cummins' Five-Wicket Haul and Australia's Stunning 10-Wicket Win for a Series Level at 1-1
Australia emerged victorious in an exciting Day 3 of the second Test, as they defeated India by 10 wickets and levelled the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 series at 1-1. Skipper Pat Cummins led a dominant performance as India was bowled out for just 175 in their second innings, as he took a sensational five-wicket haul. Though Nitish Kumar Reddy tried his best to salvage the situation, India's batting woes continued as Australia had only 19 runs to get.
India's innings just fell apart on the third day of the Test. Having managed a total of only 180 runs in the first innings, India could hardly make any difference in the second innings. Cummins and Scott Boland completely dominated the bowling, sending India's middle order crumbling with precision and use of short balls while Boland's breakthrough wickets exposed the Indian batting lineup to be in tatters.
Cummins signed off with excellent figures of 5/57. Boland, meanwhile chipped in with 3/51, and Mitchell Starc added two wickets to his overnight tally in taking 2/60. The Australian pacers remained brutal, with the three of them taking 10 wickets in less than two sessions. Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Marsh were hardly used throughout as Cummins relied on his pacers to execute a ruthlessly well-coordinated attack.
India's second innings went only 36.5 overs as the major batting weapons of the team, such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, failed at cheap costs, also Shubman Gill, KL Rahul. The whole of the rest of batting line-up folded in rather quickly after that. Nitish Reddy, who is otherwise known for his resilience, played a very good 42 before being left stranded with his teammates getting dismissed one after the other.
Australia's target was 19 runs and, in the remaining 3.2 overs, Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney took it to an easy win, levelling the series for the hosts.
