IND vs AUS: India Suffers Crushing Defeat at the Hands of Australia in Adelaide Test

The dream run of India in Perth Test came to a stunning halt in the Adelaide Test as Australia proved their supremacy in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After winning the historic victory in Perth, the Indian cricket team, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, faced a massive setback in the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval.

India Falters in Adelaide: Both Innings Under 200 Runs

In both innings, India was unable to achieve more than 200 runs. It added a lot to their defeat. In the first innings, India was bowled over for a low score of 180 runs. Therefore, when Australia declared 337 runs, it left India with an inbuilt deficit of 157 runs. Indian second innings was no better, getting all out for just 175 runs. This left Australia with a very small target of 19 runs, which they easily managed to achieve, winning the game by 10 wickets and thus leveling the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 1-1.

Important Performances: Mitchell Starc and Travis Head Shine

Australia's star bowler, Mitchell Starc, played a crucial role in India's downfall, taking 6 wickets in both innings. His brilliance along with that of Pat Cummins ensured that the Indian batting line-up was completely dismantled. Also, Travis Head's scintillating knock of 140 runs in the first innings left the Indian bowlers in a dilemma to make an impact. With Jasprit Bumrah making all the right moves, India's bowling attack was just not able to deliver the necessary breakthroughs. Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana were disappointing throughout the game.

Rohit Sharma and the Middle-Order Struggles

Team India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, who returned to the lineup for this Test, struggled in both innings. In total, Rohit managed only 9 runs, failing to provide the leadership required during the tough phases. The middle order, which had been solid in previous matches, couldn’t deliver in Adelaide either. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli, who were key players in Perth, were also unable to contribute significantly to the total score.

Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy's Bold Efforts

Despite the team's collective failure, young players such as Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy showed resilience. Reddy emerged as one of the top scorers with scores of 42 each in both innings but couldn't turn things around for his side. Pant's brief stay at the crease was over soon as Mitchell Starc's delivery sent him back to the pavilion.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Dominant Australia Ensures Victory

Australia has dominated the Adelaide Test and, thus kept the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at 1-1, and the wide open series remains for the last match. With a comprehensive 10-wicket victory, the Aussies put India on the back foot and left them much to reflect on before their next challenge.
