Amid the deadly second-wave’s devastation in India, numerous celebrities and sport personalities have come forward to help. While some Australian and Indian cricketers have announced their donation for the fight against Covid. Three more have joined the bandwagon.
Shikhar Dhawan, the opener for the Delhi Capitals, has announced a donation of Rs 20 lakh to ‘Project Oyxgen,’ which will help finance the need for oxygen in Covid-affected India.
On Friday, the southpaw took to Twitter to announce that he would donate all cash prizes earned in the IPL 2021 to relief efforts.
“We are in unprecedented times right now, and it is the need of the hour that we do everything possible to help each other out,”
“I will be making a donation of Rs 20 lakhs, plus money from all post-match individual performances towards that I receive from the IPL 2021 towards Mission Oxygen to help fund the requirement of oxygen,” read a part of his statement.
Earlier in the day, in times of need, Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat has stepped forward and donated 10% of his IPL salary to support people in India affected by Covid-19.
The 29-year-old said in a video message on Friday that he understands the pain of losing loved ones. Seeing his family members battle the deadly virus that has wreaked havoc across the country.
“I am contributing 10% of my IPL salary towards providing essential medical resources for those in need. My family will make sure it reaches the right places. Jai Hind!” he wrote alongside the video message.
Nicholas Pooran donated to fight Covid
On the other hand, Nicholas Pooran, a West Indian batsman for the Punjab Kings, has decided to donate a portion of his IPL salary to help India battle the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
“Although many other countries are still being affected by the pandemic, the situation in India right now is particularly severe. I will do my part to bring awareness and financial assistance to this dire situation,” Pooran tweeted with a video urging people to get vaccinated.
