IPL 2021 is now just days away from reaching it’s finale, as now there are only three teams left in the tournament.
KKR eliminated RCB in a last over thriller to seal their spot in the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2021. RCB’s journey came to end as they lost the eliminator by 4 wickets.
RCB won the toss and elected to bat first, batting first RCB could only manage to score 138 and KKR chased it with 4 wickets and 2 balls remaining in a close contest.
Sunil Narine was awarded with player of the match for his splendid all round performance. He grabbed 4 wickets for 21 runs and then scored a quick 26 of just 15 balls playing a crucial role in it’s team’s victory.
Harshal Patel recorded another milestone in his IPL career and became the only Indian bowler to take 32 wickets and becoming the all time leading wicket taker with Dwayne Bravo. Bravo achieved this milestone in 18 matches whereas Harshal Patel did it in just 15 matches.
Virat Kohli and Padikkal came to open the innings for RCB and both openers gave team a splendid start.
Both Batsmen brought a full use out of the first powerplay and progressed the scoreboard with a good pace.
Lockie Ferguson gave KKR their first breakthrough in form of Padikkal in the 6th over. He got out after scoring 21 of 18 balls.
Sunil Narine gave RCB their second blow in the 10th over in form of Srikar Bharat. He got out after scoring 9 runs of 16 balls.
Virat Kohli kept on progressing the scoreboard but could not do that for long as Sunil Narine took his wicket in the 13th over. Kohli got out after scoring 39 of 33 balls.
Sunil Narine grabbed wickets in regular intervals and this time it was Glenn Maxwell and AB De Villiers.
KKR did not allow any RCB batsmen to settle down and do much damage. Lockie Ferguson took the wicket of Ahmed in the 19th over.
Dan Christian’s run out in the last over literally out RCB in the backfoot. As a result RCB could only manage to score 138 in 20 overs at the loss of 7 wickets.
Shubman Gill and Iyer came to open the innings for KKR and chase the target.
Both openers gave team a great start and much needed opening. Iyer and Gill did an opening partnership of 41 runs.
Gill got out in the 6th over giving RCB their first breakthrough. Harshal Patel yet again gave RCB a much needed wicket, Gill got out after scoring 29 of 18 balls.
Chahal then took the wicket of Rahul Tripathi in the very next over bringing RCB back in the game.
Then came Nitish Rana too the crease and progressed the scoreboard for a while until Harshal Patel striked again in the 11th over and sent Iyer back to pavalion. He got out after scoring 26 of 30 balls.
Then came Narine and he hit Dan Christian for three sixes and turning the game yet again but this time with bat.
Narine and Rana gave team support in the middle over and progressed the scoreboard closer to the target.
Rana lost his wicket in the 15th over to Chahal but team was only 29 runs away from the target at that point.
Then Siraj gave KKR their final twist and took two wickets in the same over and sent both Narine and Karthik in the 18th over.
KKR needed 12 runs in the final two overs and George Garton only gave 5 in the 19th over.
What earlier seemed to be an easy win for KKR turned into a close contest. KKR was in need of 7 in the last 6.
Dan Christian had the ball and Shakib Al Hasan was on strike. The first ball and Shakib hit it for a four over the short fine leg. Then three quick singles in the next three balls and KKR won the match.
Harshal Patel did achieve a fine milestone in his career today and as a cricketing fan it is genuine to feel empathetic towards the fact that the young guy could have broken a record if he only would have gotten another match.
RCB yet again failed to win in the knock-out stage and this probably was the last match of Virat Kohli as the RCB Captain.
KKR will now face DC in the Qualifier 2 and the winner of that match will meet CSK in the final of IPL 2021.
