Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came out on top in a blockbuster of a game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to make it three wins in a row. The victory saw MS Dhoni and Co climb up to the top of the IPL 2021 table after 15 games. Faf du Plessis’ unbeaten 95 earned him the Man of the Match. Deepak Chahar too was a star performer in CSK’s 18 runs win on Wednesday at the Wankhede.

Super Chahar

KKR were nowhere near to a good start while chasing 220. They lost five wickets inside the powerplay credits to an incredible Chahar spell. The CSK pacer returned with 4 wickets in his first three overs. His scalps were Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan and Sunil Narine on the night.

Russell, Cummins stir a storm

Andre Russell was sent to bat up the order and the bargain worked. He hit a blistering 54 runs from 22 balls where he hit 3 fours and six sixes. Dinesh Karthik’s cameo of 40 from 24 deliveries lifted Kolkata’s hopes.

Australia’s Pat Cummins, however, was in a demolishing mode. The KKR pacer almost made it seem that he could do the impossible. With 6 sixes and 4 fours, Cummins struck an unbeaten 66 off 34. However, with no wickets to back him from the other end, KKR ended eventually ended up short of the target.

Fabulous Faf

Sent to bat first, Chennai were off the mark in a blink. Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaekwad found their form as the pair stitched a 115 runs stand for the first wicket. Gaekwad registered his first fifty of IPL 2021. From there on it was all Du Plessis.

The Protean kneaded a 50-run partnership and a 36-run partnership with Moen Ali and MS Dhoni respectively. The trailblazing innings ended on 95 as CSK posted a mammoth 220 runs on board after 20 overs.
