IPL 2021, Qualifier 1 CSK vs DC: Dhoni’s cameo sent CSK straight to final

IPL 2021 is about to reach it’s climax and the former 3 times champion Chennai Super Kings is the first team to reach in IPL 2021 final.

Chennai defeated Delhi in the Qualifier 1 to secure their spot in the finals. Delhi will have another chance at the opportunity to reach the final in the Qualifier 2.

Chennai won the toss and elected to bowl first. Delhi batting first score 172 runs and Chennai managed to chase it with 4 wickets and 2 balls remaining.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was awarded with player of the match for his splendid half century. He scored a crucial 70 of 50 balls.

Match Summary

CSK won the toss and invited DC to bat first. Prithvi Shaw yet again gave Delhi a really good start.

Shikhar Dhawan lost his wicket to Josh Hazlewood in the 4th over itself way before he could even settle. Dhawan scored 7 runs of 7 balls.

Josh Hazlewood striked again in his very next over and this time he sent back Shreyas Iyer. Iyer got out after scoring 1 run of 8 balls.

Hazlewood gave Delhi some early blows but that didn’t effect their scoreboard because Prithvi Shaw from the other end kept on firing blazing shots. Shaw even completed his half century.

Delhi got another blow and this time in form of Axar Patel. He lost his wicket to Moeen Ali in the 10th over after scoring 10 runs.

Then Jadeja in the very next over took the wicket of Prithvi Shaw and gave CSK comeback hopes. Shaw got out after scoring 60 of 34 balls.

Rishabh Pant and Hetmyer progressed the game from where Shaw left and did a 83 run partnership in the middle over.

Rishabh Pant scored a blazing half century. He played a captain’s knock when his team’s middle order failed.

Hetmyer did got out in the 19th over after scoring 37 of 24 balls but did his job before his departure helping his team reach a score of 172.

Gaikwad and Du Plessis came to open the innings for Chennai and chase the target.

The duo failed to gave CSK a start as Anrich Nortje took the wicket of Du Plessis in the first over itself.

Just when it would seem like DC may end it real soon Robin Uthappa came to crease. Both Uthappa and Gaikwad stood to the crease and gave team the support.

Both Uthappa and Gaikwad did a 110 run partnership after CSK lost a really early wicket. Robin Uthappa even completed his half century.

Tom Curran gave Delhi a much needed break through In the 14th over as he took the wicket of Uthappa. He got out after scoring 63 of 44 balls.

Tom Curran took the wicket of Shardul Thakur in the same over and brought his team back in the game.

Then Ambati Rayudu’s run out in the very next over by Iyer literally brought life to Delhi side.

Gaikwad continued to progress the score board and got support from Moeen Ali for a bit. Then Avesh Khan gave Delhi another breakthrough, this time it was Gaikwad.

Gaikwad lost his wicket in 19th over after playing a crucial knock of 70 on 50 deliveries.

By the last over CSK was still in need of 13 runs and the over was being bowled by Tom Curran. Tom already had grabbed two wickets and he grabbed his third wicket in the first ball itself.

Tom Curran sent Moeen Ali back and made it seemed like DC has won a one way ticket to the finals but Dhoni had planned to write the final twist of the story.

Dhoni smashed Tom’s next three balls for a boundary and the finisher yet again proved why he should never be counted out.

Captain Cool’s little but crucial cameo at the end gave CSK a direct entrance to the IPL 2021 final.

Delhi will have another chance at the opportunity but they’ll get have to wait for the winner of KKR vs RCB.
