IPL 2021: On September 20, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will play Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season opener.

RCB stated in May that they will wear blue jerseys to honour the frontline workers fighting the Covid-19 outbreak in India.

The IPL, however, was suspended before their next match due to positive Covid-19 cases in the bio-bubbles of franchisees in Delhi and Ahmedabad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the IPL will be staged in the United Arab Emirates from September 19 to October 15.

“RCB to wear Blue Jersey v KKR on 20th. We at RCB are honoured to sport the Blue kit, which resembles the colour of the PPE kits of the frontline warriors; to pay tribute to their invaluable service while leading the fight against the Covid pandemic,” RCB said in a statement.

RCB will wear blue this year instead of their signature ‘Go Green’ campaign jersey.

Important healthcare messages will also be imprinted on the blue shirts.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj, landed in the UAE on a chartered plane from Manchester; where India was playing England in a Test series.

After a Covid-19 scare in the Indian camp, the 5th and final Test of the series was cancelled.

Meanwhile, for the second consecutive IPL season, RCB will aim to make the play-offs.

Virat Kohli’s team is in third position with five victories from seven games; locked on 10 points with the second-placed Chennai Super Kings.

On the other hand, with 12 points from eight games, the Delhi Capitals lead the points table.
