IPL 2021: The Delhi Capitals confirmed on Thursday that flashy wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will lead the team for the duration of the IPL, which begins on September 19.
Considering how well the Delhi Capitals performed under Pant, despite Shreyas Iyer leading them to their first final last year, it was one of the most expected decisions.
The Delhi Capitals are now in first place in the IPL points standings with 12 points after winning six games under Pant’s captaincy; earlier this year after Iyer was injured and had to undergo shoulder surgery.
“JSW-GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals today announced that Rishabh Pant will continue as captain for the remainder of the IPL2021 season,” the franchise’s official handle tweeted.
Pant pleased many with his captaincy talents during the IPL 2021 opening matches. As he made some strategic bowling adjustments that aided the team’s performance.
“Delhi Capitals is currently on top of the points table with 6 wins from 8 matches; and will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on the 22nd of September when the league resumes in the UAE”. DC further said in the statement.
“Super excited for the remainder of season – very happy to have @ShreyasIyer15 back in the squad and fully fit; have no doubt that Rishabh and him together will continue the fantastic work done in the first half of the season; let’s bring home the title @DelhiCapitals @IPL,” DC chairman Parth Jindal tweeted.
After a successful surgery, Iyer has rejoined Delhi’s squad for the UAE leg of the IPL 2021; which will also mark his long-awaited return to competitive cricket.
