Rajasthan Royals’ Ben Stokes has been ruled out from the remaining IPL 2021 matches due to a broken finger in his left hand. The all-rounder sustained the injury in RR’s opening match against Punjab Kings.

RR’s statement on Ben Stokes injury

In a statement about the injury, Rajasthan Royals said, “subsequent investigations revealed that he sustained a broken finger, which will, unfortunately, rule him out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2021 season”. Stokes will continue to provide “support and inputs off the field” while the franchise looks for a replacement.

“Everyone at Rajasthan Royals absolutely admires Ben for being such a huge asset and a valuable member of the Royals family, both on and off the field, and wishes him a speedy recovery,” the Royals statement said. “We are delighted that Ben would like to stay with the group to provide his valued support and inputs off the field. In the meantime, we will be reviewing potential replacement options for the remainder of the season.”

Rajasthan Royals’ fate

In the match against Punjab Kings, Ben had bowled only the eighth over. Later on, he came out to open the innings for the Royals, but lasted only 3 balls before Mohammed Shami. Subsequently, RR lost the match by 4 runs.

Stokes’ injury just adds to the Royals’ ill-luck since they already lost Jofra Archer, who is expected to miss out at least 4 matches of the season due to his hand surgery. While Archer was cleared to return to training on Tuesday, it is still not clear when he will be able to resume playing.

Replacements for Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes’ injury leaves a huge gap in the Rajasthan Royals lineup. 3 players who can replace Stokes are:

Devon Conway

Conway is one of the most consistent players of New Zealand. A batsman of Conway’s calibre, who has been phenomenal since his debut might help the middle order of the team greatly.

Martin Guptill

Another great Kiwi, Martin is considered one of the cleanest strikers in cricket. His ability to hit consistent boundaries is portrayed by his healthy strike rate of 136.82. Additionally, he may be able to help Royals to put pressure on the opposition bowlers.

Alex Hales

The aggressive English player might be just what the Rajasthan Royals need to put them off on a good start. An outstanding strike rate of 152.12 is proof enough that he will definitely boost the RR lineup.
