The IPL 2025 Mega Auction, set for November 24-25 in Saudi Arabia, has been rescheduled to avoid clashing with the ongoing India vs. Australia Test match in Perth. Initially planned for 3:00 PM IST, the auction will now begin at 3:30 PM IST to accommodate potential match extensions due to weather or slow over rates.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Rescheduled Timing Announced

The decision follows a request from broadcasters, aiming to ensure uninterrupted viewership for both events. With millions of fans eagerly awaiting the auction and the high-stakes Test match, this adjustment ensures both spectacles receive the attention they deserve without competing for audiences.Revised Timing for the IPL Mega Auction

The auction will be streamed live on JioCinema, and the bidding was initially set to start at 3:00 PM IST. However, after the broadcasters' request, the new start time has been moved to 3:30 PM IST. This decision aims to ensure uninterrupted viewership for both the IPL Mega Auction and the India-Australia Test match.

Why the Change?

The first Test match between India and Australia is being played in Perth from November 22 to 26, with daily play ending around 2:30 PM IST. However, factors like weather, poor light, or slow over rates could extend the match timing, potentially clashing with the auction broadcast. To avoid this conflict and maximize viewership for both events, the broadcasters requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to revise the auction timing.

Impact on Broadcasters

The overlap could have led to significant losses for Disney+ Hotstar, which holds TV rights for the IPL Mega Auction as well as the digital and TV rights for India’s tour of Australia. The IPL auction has grown into a major event over the years, attracting millions of viewers. A clash with a high-profile Test match could have impacted the audience and advertising revenues for both events.

A Strategic Move

This rescheduling highlights the growing importance of viewership optimization in cricket. By accommodating both the IPL auction and the Test match, organizers ensure that fans won’t miss out on either spectacle. Viewers can tune in to the live auction at 3:30 PM IST on November 24 and 25 to watch teams bid for their dream squads.
