ATK Mohun Bagan vs NorthEast United
The technical hosts of the game, ATK were dominant throughout and held off a late NEUFC goal. ATK had their chance to open the scoresheet in the 3rd minute when Roy Krishna fed an accurate pass to Javier Hernandez, whose low shot came off the post.
Persistent in their attacks, Kolkata’s ATK Mohun Bagan took the lead in the 38th minute when Krishna set up Williams, and the latter beat the defenders with pace before slotting it into the top right corner.
Habas’ side went into the half-time break leading 1-0 at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa. It was North East who dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half. They created chances and tested the keeper, but both Federico Gallego and Suhair were denied early on by Arindam.
Bagan extended their lead soon, riding a stunning counter attack. Roy Krishna collected a cleared ball from a set piece and set up Manvir on the right with a brilliant pass. Manvir sent two defenders the wrong way before shooting past the keeper in the 68th minute.
However, the home side took a jolt when they allowed NEUFC a sniff late on. Khalid Jamil’s side pulled back one in the 74th minute owing to Bagan keeper Arindam’s howler. Machado whipped in a corner which was flicked on by Benjamin Lambot. Arindam missed the ball completely which fell off the post to Suhair who headed it in.
North East got yet another chance to equalise, when the referee awarded the visitors a penalty for a foul on Idrissa. But Machado fired it wide.
