Juventus lose 0-3 vs Fiorentina, suffer first league defeat

Defending champions Juventus suffered its first league defeat of the season in their Serie A fixture against Fiorentina on Tuesday. The Old Lady got hammered 0-3 at their home as they slipped to fourth in the league table. Their loss meant they are now seven points behind table-toppers AC Milan, six points behind Inter Milan and Napoli owing to goal difference. Post-game, Andre Pirlo slammed the players’ attitude after the loss.

Fiorentina, who had failed to win any of their previous six league matches capitalized on the home team’s poor defending. To add on to their owes, Juventus were Juan Cuadrado was sent off after 18 minutes into the game owing to a rash tackle.

Dusan Vlahovic stunned the Old Lady, as he gave the visitors a lead in the third minute. An Alex Sandro’s own goal and a late effort from Martín Cáceres sealed the match for Fiorentina. This was the visitors’ first win since Cesare Prandelli returned as coach.

Pirlo told Sky Sports Italia, “What happened with the red card cannot be used as an alibi. The result was not down to Fiorentina’s attitude but the lack of ours.”

“When this is the case you face bad situations like this. In games before Christmas, it can happen when you have your mind on the holidays. We were unfocused and could not recover.”

“The images for the sending off seem clear to me. There could have been some decisions in our favour, but that’s not something I want to comment on – you can see for yourself.”

“We thought we could take some risks, it was the right time to be more aggressive,” said Fiorentina coach Prandelli, “To win and overcome fear you have to be bold — if you are afraid, sooner or later you will suffer. And in the long run, the work pays off.”
