At 34 years old, Williamson reached this remarkable feat after playing 103 Test matches and 182 innings. Prior to this match, he had scored 8881 runs in 180 innings. In the first innings of the Christchurch Test, he scored 93 runs, and in the second innings, he added 26 more runs to cross the 9000-run mark. This made him the first New Zealand player to achieve this milestone.

Fastest to 9000 Runs in Test Cricket

Not only did Williamson become the first New Zealand cricketer to score 9000 Test runs, but he also surpassed some of the biggest names in international cricket. He became the third fastest player to reach 9000 Test runs, joining the ranks of legends like Kumar Sangakkara and Younis Khan, who also achieved this in 103 Test matches.

In terms of the fastest to 9000 Test runs, Williamson left England's Joe Root (196 innings) and India's Virat Kohli (197 innings) behind. Australia's Steve Smith holds the record for the fastest to 9000 runs, reaching the milestone in 174 innings across 99 Tests.
