Pakistan batsman Azam Khan hospitalised after head injury during training

Azam Khan, Pakistan batter taken to hospital after receiving a blow to the head during training on Friday in Guyana.

Azam Khan has been ruled out of the second and third T20Is against the West Indies.

A fast bowler is said to have struck the 22-year-old, who made his debut against England earlier this month.

A neurosurgeon has advises a 24-hour observation period, after which he will be examine on Monday, according to a PCB announcement.

The evaluation will determine his availability for the fourth and final T20I.

According to ESPNcricinfo report Azam Khan did not lose consciousness and was wearing a helmet when he was hit.

On Wednesday, the first T20I between Pakistan and the West Indies was washes out, leaving only nine overs available.

Azam Khan hasn’t had the chance to nail down in a middle-order spot since being called up to the national team, with this series being the final T20I before Pakistan names their selection for the T20 World Cup.

On his debut, he came in to bat in the last over and was quickly dismissed in the game that followed, only to be left out of the decider against England.

All three remaining games will take place in Guyana; with Saturday’s encounter serving as the first of two back-to-back weekend matches before the final match on Tuesday.

The T20Is will follow by two Tests, which will take place in Kingston on August 12 and 20.
