The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is preparing to impose a three-year ban on wrestler Antim Panghal, following allegations of misconduct during the Olympics. A source disclosed to PTI on Thursday that Panghal’s actions brought embarrassment to the Indian contingent when she used her accreditation card to attempt to grant her sister access to the Athletes Village.

Incident and Immediate Consequences

On Wednesday, Panghal was eliminated from the Olympic competition after losing her first match in the women's 53kg weight class. The incident involving her sister's unauthorized access led to swift action from the IOA and French officials.

"The decision will be formally announced after she reaches India," a source from the contingent stated.

Disciplinary Actions

The IOA decided to send Panghal and her support staff back to India following the disciplinary violation reported by French officials. The seriousness of the breach led to their immediate return.

"Her sister was caught for impersonation and was taken to a police station to record her statement," another source revealed.

Formal Announcement Pending

The formal announcement of the ban will be made upon Panghal's return to India. The decision underscores the IOA's commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity within the Indian contingent.

This disciplinary action aims to serve as a deterrent to future breaches of conduct by Indian athletes at international events, ensuring that the reputation of the Indian contingent remains intact.
