PARIS — The fourth day of the Paris Paralympics 2024 saw mixed fortunes for Indian athletes, with notable achievements in badminton and some disappointments in shooting and athletics. As the day unfolded, India was hopeful of securing up to five medals, with top athletes like Avani Lekhara back in action after her gold medal win on Day 2.

Badminton Highlights

In a significant achievement for India, Manisha Ramdass secured a spot in the semifinals of the Women's Singles SU5 category. Manisha displayed excellent form, defeating her opponent with scores of 21-13, 21-16. This victory has raised hopes for another medal for India in the ongoing Paralympics.

However, it wasn't all good news in badminton, as Palak Kohli was knocked out in the quarterfinals of the Women's Singles SL4 category. Palak fought hard but eventually lost 19-21, 15-21 to her Indonesian opponent, Khailimatus Sadiyah.

Earlier in the day, Mandeep Kaur faced a tough challenge in the Women's Singles SL3 quarterfinal, where she was defeated by Nigeria’s Marion Aniola Bolaji. Mandeep lost both games 8-21 and 9-21, marking a disappointing exit for her in the tournament.

Shooting Challenges

Indian shooters had a challenging day, with none of them managing to qualify for the finals in their respective events. Avani Lekhara, who had won gold earlier in the competition, and Siddharth Babu both participated in the R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 event. Unfortunately, Avani finished 11th with a score of 632.8, and Siddharth ended up in 28th place with 628.3 points, leaving them out of the final round.

In another shooting event, Indian athlete Shriyash Devraddi Ramakrishna also struggled in the R5 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH2 category, finishing 26th and missing out on a spot in the finals.

Athletics Results

In athletics, Rakshita Raju, who competed in the Women's 1500m T11 race, was unable to secure a place in the finals, finishing 12th in her event. This result was another setback for India on Day 4.
