Parma vs Juventus: Ronaldo equals record as Juve rout Parma

Cristiano Ronaldo equaled a 59-year-old Serie A record on Saturday after scoring a brace for the Old Lady in their weekend fixture against Parma away from home. Andrea Pirlo’s side are now third in the Italian league table with 27 points from 13 games. Dejan Kulusevski and Alvaro Morata scored in Juve’s 0-4 rout.

The 35-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo became one of only five players in Serie A history to score 32 or more goals in the competition in a calendar year, with his brace at the Ennio Tardini Stadium. The Portuguese moved to the top of the goalscoring chart in the 2020-21 Serie A, with his fifth double in the league and sixth overall this season. Ronaldo now has 12 goals in the 2020-21 Serie A, two more than Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku. It was Kulusevski who knocked the ball into the far bottom corner in the 23rd minute when he quickly reacted to Alex Sandro’s low cross.

Within just three minutes of the opening goal, Ronaldo went airborne as he leaped the highest to head in a cross from Alvaro Morata. Juve lead 0-2 in the 26th minute and finished the first half. Three minutes into the second half, it was CR7 who found the back of the net once again to take Juve’s lead to 3-0 in the 48th minute.

Morata netted the fourth when he headed in Federico Bernardeschi’s cross. It was also a good outing for Juve’s 42-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. The Italian national managed to keep a rare clean sheet. However, had he not saved with his legs at close range from Juraj Kucka in the 15th minute, it could have been a different story.

Nine times champion Juventus drew level on 27 points with second-placed Inter Milan, who host Spezia on Sunday, and one behind leaders AC Milan, who visit Sassuolo.
