The Mumbai Police have detained again another young person in relation to the alleged abuse of Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw. Shobit, a young man, was detained after Shaw allegedly suffered an attack and had his car broken into with a baseball bat outside a hotel in Mumbai’s Santacruz district. Following an altercation between Shaw and a female social media influencer named Sapna Gill and her friend Shobit Thakur, the incident happened early on Wednesday. Shaw reportedly refused to take any more selfies with Gill, which sparked the argument. Two additional teenagers, Rudra and Sahil, had already been detained by the Mumbai Police in connection with the case. So far, four people have been arrested in total.

Shaw’s friend Ashish Yadav, who has lived in his apartment with him for the past three years and owns a cafe, reported the incident. According to the complaint, Gill and Thakur approached the cricketer for a selfie at the hotel, and Shaw initially agreed to have his picture taken with them. But when they insisted on more photos, Shaw refused their request. As a result, Gill and her friend began acting inappropriately around the drunk cricketer. When the hotel manager saw this, he intervened and demanded that Gill and Thakur leave the area.
Shaw and Yadav had dinner at the hotel after the incident. However, the complaint claimed that when they emerged, Thakur was holding a baseball bat. Gill allegedly manhandled Shaw as the accused continued to attack the car’s windscreen. While Yadav and others drove the cricketer’s car to Oshiwara, the cricketer was transferred to another vehicle.
Three motorcycles and a white car, according to Yadav, were pursuing their car. He claimed that at 4 am, the chasers ambushed his vehicle as it made a u-turn next to a gas station on Link Road.
According to the complaint, Thakur was one of the individuals pursuing the car and attacking its windscreen with a bat. The complaint added that Yadav took the car to the Oshiwara police station after being harassed by six people on motorcycles, including Gill and Thakur, who were both sitting in a car.
Police stated that , the eight suspects pursued Yadav to the station and threatened to settle the matter for Rs. 50,000 or she would file a false police report against them. On Thursday, the Oshiwara Police detained Gill, and seven other people were charged with attempting to intimidate the cricket player by allegedly damaging his car and making false accusations against him. On Tuesday, the Police again took a statement from Shaw’s friend Ashish Yadav.
Yadav reported that the suspect had threatened to kill him to the police. Yadav’s statement prompted the police to amend the FIR to include Section 387 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with putting someone in fear of death or great harm in order to commit extortion. “Yadav had received death threats from the accused. The FIR now includes IPC Sec. 387, “stated Mumbai Police.
Based on the complaint, Oshiwara Police filed a case under the Indian Penal Code’s (IPC) sections 143 (illegal assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), and some other sections. According to the police, Gill and Thakur were both drunk at the time of the incident. On Friday, Sapna Gill appeared before the Andheri court, and the judge sent the police to arrest her. Sapna Gill was produced before the Andheri court on Friday where the court sent her in police custody till February 20. It was argued on behalf of Sapna’s lawyer referring to media reports that Shaw has a habit of alcohol and that is why he has been banned by the BCCI.
