The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 came to a befitting conclusion as Imad Wasim’s Karachi Kings lifted their maiden title. In a low scoring final Kings outclassed Sohail Akhtar’s Lahore Qalandars by 5 wickets at the National Stadium in Karachi. Babar Azam was adjudged as the player of the match and also the player of the series.
Locking horns in the summit clash, the Kings restricted Lahore to 134 in 20 overs. Failing to ride on the blazing start from Tamim Iqbal and Fakhar Zaman, Lahore kept losing wickets after the first powerplay. Tamim’s 35 off 38 and Fakhar’s 27 off 24 were the only mentionable knock in their 20 overs. For Karachi Waqas Maqsood, Umaid Asif and Arshad Iqbal put up a commendable effort as they returned with 2 wickets each.
With the title in sight, the Pakistan captain Babar Azam gave Karachi the start they needed. Azam remained unbeaten on 63 off 49 balls to the Kings home and secure their maiden PSL title with a five-wicket win over Lahore in a thrilling final.
Babar Azam concluded the 2020 season of the PSL with 473 runs which are the most number of runs scored by any player in a single edition of PSL. Babar thus broke the record held by Luke Ronchi with 435 runs in 2018 for Islamabad United.
The Pakistan run machine has hit a total of 163 fours in the PSL which is the most by any player in this league.
In the post-match presser, Azam said, “I have been having a good time with the bat. I didn’t panic and played according to the situation. The wicket was a little slow. I played my normal game; I try to stay calm. Our team was brilliant in the field today.”
