Sergio Aguero signs for FC Barcelona until 2023 on a free transfer

Following his departure from Manchester City, Sergio Aguero will join Barcelona on a free transfer. On Monday, the 32-year-old had a physical at Camp Nou before signing a two-year deal with the Blaugrana.

After City decided to release Aguero at the conclusion of his contract, Barca pushed to sign him, bringing an end to his trophy-laden ten-year stay in Manchester.

FC Barcelona and Sergio ‘Kun’ Agüero have reached an agreement for the player to join the Club from 1 July. It’s when his contract with Manchester City expires. 

The player will sign a contract until the end of the 2022/23 season. The Argentine’s buy out clause is set at 100 million euros.

Aguero – The man, the myth, the legend 

With Club Atlético Independiente, he became the youngest player ever to play in the Argentine First Division at the age of 15 years and 35 days. After coming to Europe, the striker won La Liga with Atlético Madrid. With Manchester City, he established several goalscoring records.

Agüero made his 390th appearance for Manchester City in the recent Champions League final in Porto against Chelsea.

After ten seasons in the Premier League, he leaves a legacy as the club’s all-time leading scorer. He is also the Premier League’s foreign player with the most goals.

He scored 260 goals, 74 assists, and won 15 trophies with Manchester City. This includes five Premier League crowns, one FA Cup, six League Cups, and three Community Shields, the Premier League’s version of the Super Cup.

Agüero was a member of the Argentine U-20 World Cup winning sides in 2005 and 2007. As well as capturing an Olympic gold medal with Leo Messi in Beijing in 2008.
