Marcus Rashford is in the headlines yet again after rescuing Manchester United from a familiar situation at Bramall Lane on Thursday. The 23-year-old struck twice in United’s 2-3 victory over Sheffield United, thus lifting the Red Devils to the 6th spot in the League table. Anthony Martial got on the scoresheet as he dabbed one in from a magical Paul Pogba pass.
United once again trailed behind on Thursday after a Dean Henderson howler which was converted by Sheffield’s David McGoldrick in the 5th minute of the game. As the game progressed, Rashford received a Victor Lindelof ball from his own half, and he raced to finish in style in the 26th minute.
Seven minutes later, Pogba, who has been in the headlines lately for all wrong reasons, produced a phenomenal assist for Martial, who stopped and dabbed in the ball to give the visitors a much-deserved lead. United ended the first half leading 1-2.
Six minutes into the second half, Rashford found the back of the net to give United 1-3 lead. Another Pogba magic in the midfield as he cut in a misplaced throw-in to release Greenwood ahead from the Utd half. Greenwood passed it to Rashford in the right who played it beautifully to Bruno Fernandes and then finally Martial tapping it in the right place for Rashford to slot it in under Ramsdale.
United looked set for a comfortable win, but it was McGoldrick who once again got on the scoresheet to make it 2-3 in the 87th minute. A John Fleck corner ricocheted off McGoldrick’s head from Lindelof’s header. For the sixth successive away game in the league, Man United fell behind before winning.
Rashford quipped post-match. “Once again, we’ve done well to respond, going a goal behind, scoring three goals, and then of course, late on, if we don’t kill the game off it’s going to be tough at a place. Today we didn’t get anything that we didn’t expect. They fought for every ball, they wanted to win the game and they fought for 90 minutes, and in the end, we managed to get the three points like this.”
