Sachin Tendulkar, the Legend of the Indian cricket team, met with Mirabai Chanu, the silver medalist from the Tokyo Olympics, at his house in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Mirabai Chanu has become a national hero after becoming the first Indian woman to win a silver medal in weightlifting at the Olympics last month.
Mirabai Chanu is only the second Indian woman to win a weightlifting medal in over two decades, following Karnam Malleswari.
Malleswari had won bronze in the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
Chanu became the first Indian to win a medal for the country on the first day of the Olympics when she won silver in the women’s 49 kg category at the Tokyo Olympics.
Mirabai Chanu and Sachin Tendulkar both used social media to express their admiration for one another and how much they loved the meeting.
“Loved meeting @sachin_rt Sir this morning! His words of wisdom & motivation shall always stay with me. Really inspired,” Chanu tweeted.

Sachin Tendulkar replied to Mirabai Chanu “Equally happy to meet you this morning, @mirabai_chanu! It was wonderful talking to you about your inspiring journey from Manipur to Tokyo. You’ve got places to go in the coming years, keep working hard.”
The former world champion has been hoping for an Olympics silver medal for a long time.
The Manipur iron lady lifted a total of 202kg (87kg+115kg) to surpass Karnam Malleswari’s bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
With this, she exorcised the ghosts of the 2016 Olympics; when she failed to log a single genuine lift and was left devastated.
