Sunil Gavaskar turns 72: Wishes pour in from fans and cricket fraternity for ‘Little Master’

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar turned 72 on Saturday, as well wishes flooded in for the renowned batter.

On this date in 1949, Gavaskar, a technically sound batsman, was born in Armoor, Telangana.

Gavaskar is the first Indian batsman to reach 10,000 Test runs, as well as the first to make hundreds in each of the three innings of a Test match.

Sunil Gavaskar was the best opener in the history of cricket.

He has tremendous talent and concentration, making it difficult to reject him.

His defensive techniques were also outstanding, demonstrating the man’s incredible patience.

Furthermore, the small maestro had practically every shot a batsman could imagine in his manual.

Gavaskar retired from Test cricket with a total of 10122 runs at an average of 51.12.

In ODIs, he scored 3092 runs at an average of 35.13.

Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar’s birthday was celebrated with tweets from the BCCI official Twitter accounts, paying honour to the first batsman to amass 10,000 Test runs. Cricket fraternity also pour wishes on twitter.

“Many more happy returns of the day to my childhood hero and inspiration, Sunil Gavaskar. He instilled courage and belief in many young Indian batsmen to face the best bowlers in the world fearlessly. Have a great day and year ahead, Sunny Bhai !” tweeted VVS Laxman
