New Delhi: Real Madrid have agreed to sign German international defender Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer as his contract with Premier League club Chelsea expires, the two clubs confirmed on Thursday. The 29-year-old will be a part of Real Madrid for the next four seasons, according to the LaLiga champions. A presentation ceremony will be held for Antonio Rudiger on June 20. Antonio Rudiger has been a key player for Chelsea since he joined Italian club AS Roma in 2017. “I’m super excited for all the challenges ahead and can’t wait to play my first games for this huge club,” Rudiger Tweeted.
Chelsea described Rudiger “as one of the most passionate characters to represent the club in recent memory”.
Antonio Rudiger played over 200 times in all competitions for Chelsea, winning the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup with the London club.
Rudiger first joined AS Roma in 2015 on loan from VfB Stuttgart, where he kicked off his career, before making the switch permanent at the end of that season.
He has won 50 international caps for Germany since his debut in 2014.
