T20 World Cup 2021, IND vs NZ: Kiwis stomp Men in Blue by 8 wickets

T20 World Cup is in the super 12 stage and New Zealand defeated India in the second half of the double header contest in a really dominant fashion.

Team India have now lost two consecutive matches and is now standing on the verge of getting out of the semifinals race.

New Zealand with this win have opened their winning slot after the loss against Pakistan.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first and managed to restrict Team India on 110 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs and then chased it with 8 wickets and 33 balls remaining.

Ish Sodhi was awarded with the player of the match for his splendid bowling spell of 2 wickets for 17 runs in four overs. He took the crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Match Summary

New Zealand won the toss and invited Team India to bat first. KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan came to open the innings for India.

The openers failed to gave a start as Ishan Kishan got out in the third over itself after scoring just 4 runs of 8 balls on Trent Boult’s delivery.

After that KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma did progressed the scoreboard for a while but Rahul got out in the 6th over after scoring 18 runs of 16 balls.

Rohit Sharma followed Rahul back two overs later as Ish Sodhi dismissed him on the score of 14 runs.

Ish Sodhi gave Men in Blue another blow in the 11th over and this time it was the skipper himself. Virat Kohli got out after scoring 9 runs of 17 balls.

Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant yet again disappointed the Indian fans as they failed to score big and effectively.

Rishabh Pant scored 12 runs of 19 balls on the other hand Hardik Pandya could only manage to score a single boundary in the 24 balls he played.

Ravindra Jadeja did fired some blazing shots during the end of the Innings and helped Team India reach 110 in 20 overs. He returned after scoring an unbeaten 26 of 19 balls.

Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell came to open the New Zealand innings and chase the target.

Martin Guptill was seeming dangerous in the beginning but got out in the fourth over after scoring 20 runs of 17 balls on Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery.

This was the first wicket for the Indian bowlers in this World Cup.

Kane Williamson joined Daryl Mitchell and progressed the rest of the Innings. Both of them joined a crucial 72 runs partnership and never gave Team India any chance to comeback in the match.

Jasprit Bumrah striked again in the 13th over and took the wicket of Daryl Mitchell batting on 49 of 35 balls. Daryl got out when his team’s score was 96.

Daryl Mitchell did his job before his departure now his team were just few steps away from Victory.

The rest was done by the Skipper Kane Williamson himself as he returned unbeaten on 33 of 31 balls and ensured his team’s victory.

New Zealand won the match by 8 wickets with 33 balls remaining and earning their first ever victory in the tournament so far.

Team India with this loss are now on the brink of getting out of the semifinals race but there are still some chances for them.
